Honda’s Emission Reduction Efforts Earn Them “Climate Change A-list” Title

Honda is committed to continually improving their products and brand, with a definite emphasis on reducing their environmental impact. They’re working to reduce their carbon emissions, use more clean energy, conserve resources, and help nature to make things better for future generations. One of their biggest goals is to have zero environmental impact by 2050, which they’re pursuing through clean energy, resource circulation, and carbon neutrality.

To reduce emissions, Honda is moving towards clean energy solutions. Their Indiana manufacturing plant fully switched to solar power and is creating more energy than the plant needs to run. Their wind farm in Oklahoma helps to offset CO2 emissions from their US auto manufacturing. Looking ahead, they’re researching hydrogen fuel cell technology in hopes of integrating it into personal vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles to reduce carbon emissions.

Honda aims to use 100% sustainable materials, focusing on maximizing the use of recycled materials in their products. They reuse the valuable materials from products at the end of their life, thus reducing the amount that goes into landfills. They also take back batteries in their hybrid and electric vehicles, reusing nonrenewable materials like nickel, cobalt, and lithium. Honda hopes to achieve zero-waste in as many aspects of business as they can and have come up with some creative ways to do that. For example, they take worn employee uniforms and turn them into sound-absorbing insulation for their cars, preventing 45,000 lbs. of uniforms per month from going to landfills.

Switching to an electric car is one of the easiest ways you can reduce your carbon footprint, and Honda is making it easy for consumers to make the switch. They have all sorts of fully electric and hybrid vehicle models, so there’s something to fit everyone’s lifestyle. Honda believes in maximizing space for people and minimizing space for parts, so their EVs have thin and light batteries that create more interior space without minimizing performance. They’re making it easier and more accessible to charge your EV too! Honda teamed up with seven other automakers to build and install a minimum of 30,000 public EV charging stations across the US. Honda takes that same accessibility to your home, with several home charging options.

And Honda isn’t just preaching these ideas, they’re following through. The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) selected Honda as a “Climate Change A-list” company for the third consecutive year. Honda was awarded this title for their outstanding environmental initiatives. Some projects to reduce carbon emissions included installing solar panels on and around their buildings and building and operating wind power plants. Honda wants to build a better future for everyone.
