Honda Sweeps INDYCAR Championship in Dominant 2025 Season

Honda has officially reasserted its dominance in American open-wheel racing, completing a stunning sweep of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES championships. With Alex Palou securing his fourth drivers’ title in five seasons and Honda clinching its first manufacturers’ championship since 2021, this season has been nothing short of historic.

A Championship Season for the Record Books

Honda’s 2025 INDYCAR campaign has been one of the most commanding in recent memory. With 12 wins in 15 races across every type of track—road courses, street circuits, short ovals, and superspeedways—Honda demonstrated unmatched consistency and versatility. The highlight of the season? A triumphant win at the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500, marking Honda’s 16th Indy 500 victory.

This sweeping success culminated at Portland International Raceway, where both titles were mathematically clinched with two rounds still to go. The feat underlines the strength of the Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) operation and the exceptional depth of talent among their affiliated teams.

Alex Palou: A Star in Full Flight

Leading the charge was Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou, whose dominance reached new heights in 2025. With eight victories this season—including his first career Indy 500 win—Palou captured his third consecutive championship and fourth in five years. He now joins an elite group of drivers with four INDYCAR titles, sitting alongside names like Mario Andretti, Sebastien Bourdais, and Dario Franchitti.

“We just won the championship! It was an amazing race,” Palou said after securing the title with a third-place finish in Portland. “I can’t thank this #10 team and Honda enough—congratulations to everyone at Honda and HRC on wrapping up the manufacturers’ championship as well today! That’s pretty cool.”

Teamwork Powers Honda to the Top

Honda’s success wasn’t just the product of one superstar driver. All five of its partner teams—Chip Ganassi Racing, Andretti Global, Meyer Shank Racing, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and Dale Coyne Racing—contributed to the championship-winning season. Whether on the podium or collecting valuable points, each squad played a role in pushing Honda past its competition.

Barry Wanser, race strategist for Palou and Senior Manager of Racing Operations at Chip Ganassi Racing, highlighted the role of Honda’s performance and efficiency: “We can’t do it without the performance, the power and fuel economy that we get from the Honda engines. To do this with two races still left—absolutely amazing.”

A Milestone for Honda Racing Corporation USA

This year’s championship marks Honda’s seventh INDYCAR manufacturers’ title and 11th in American Open Wheel competition overall. It’s also their most successful season in the current era of INDYCAR, with a record 12 wins and counting.

Looking Ahead

With two races remaining in the 2025 season, Honda and Palou have already achieved the ultimate prize—but they aren’t done yet. With a record-breaking season in progress and momentum on their side, the Honda-powered teams are looking to finish strong and set an even higher benchmark for the future.

2025 has been a landmark year for Honda in INDYCAR—one defined by dominance, unity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The bar has been raised, and all eyes now turn to what promises to be an even more competitive 2026 season.
